Caring for Ourselves & Our Neighbors

The 46205, 46208, and 46218 zip codes (surrounding Broadway) have a high rate of infant mortality.  Several of our neighbors have also been impacted by Black Maternal Childbirth Death which is devastating to families and communities.

Broadway's Maternal Child Health Team seeks to  walk beside pregnant and newly parenting women in our neighborhood, as well as, provide education on Safe Sleep, and host Community Baby Showers.

The Mom2Mom  program partners pregnant and newly parenting mothers with experienced and trained companions (most of which are mothers and grandmothers from the neighborhood), connects mothers with their peers in a bi-weekly supportive community, and provides mothers with resources, referrals, education, and home visiting.   Mom2Mom has been developed with help from an intern from the Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health at IUPUI, Broadway's Congregational Health Connector and Grassroots Maternal & Child Health Leader, Stephanie Caraway, and 15 community volunteers.  Special thanks to The Indianapolis Foundation for their support of this program.

Ending the
HIV Epidemic

The CDC and Health & Human Services have set goals of 75% reduction in HIV transmission by 2025 and 90% by 2030.  These are bold goals especially for our community.

Marion County is one of 48 counties identified as a hotspot for HIV.  From the beginning, the Black community has not received the same attention to combat the incidence and prevalence of HIV/AIDS, and continues to experience a disproportionate impact today. In the Indianapolis TGA in 2022, 57.3.% of new HIV diagnoses were African American (and another 14% are Latinx).

Because we love and care for our neighbors we are working hard to develop new leaders who will provide energy, creativity, and vision so that together we can End the HIV Epidemic.

Reproductive Health

Structural racism, reproductive coercion, and social and financial disadvantage serve as challenges to woman seeking comprehensive contraceptive information and access.   Path4You provides both online and in-person reproductive health and contraceptive education to women, and access to no cost to patient birth  control.  Go to www.path4you.org for more information.
Planned Parenthood of Indiana Teen Council meets at Broadway on Tuesday evenings 4:30-8:30pm.
