Today we continue Jesus' teaching as he prepares his disciples for his departure. Earlier in John’s Gospel (13:34-35) Jesus gave the commandment to “Love one another.”  But while It’s pretty easy to say “I love God” it is so much harder to say I will follow God and actually practice love.  To embody love, to make love visible, to make love tangible to the point you don’t just feel it, but you exude it. The good news is that Jesus promises that he will not abandon us to do this work alone, but will send the Holy Spirit to help with the heavy lifting.
