3rd Sunday of Lent

Mar 23, 2025    Rev. Aaron Hobbs

The Pharisees and Herodians (political group in support of Rome) attempt to trap Jesus with a question about the legality of paying taxes to the emperor. Jesus is frustrated with the trick question because his time is getting short in this scene from the last week of his life on earth. So Jesus turns the question back on them revealing both their own corruption and allegiance - placing arguments over money above Jesus' Kindom ways of love, mercy, kindness, compassion, and love. Money often tempts us, too, and confuses our allegiances. Remembering that everything is God's helps us remember to resist anything that tempts us away from using our resources for the collective liberation of us all.
