15th Sunday After Pentecost

Today we began a new sermon series entitled,  “Remaining Faithful in a Fractured Nation: A Progressive Christian Journey Toward the Midterms”.  Over the next 9-weeks leading up to the November 3rd Midterm Election, we will focus on how following Jesus means learning to love our neighbors, confront unjust systems that produce suffering, resist the idolatry of power, offer hope, and practice love that is much deeper than electoral victory or defeat.  

I know this moment for many of us is filled with anger, discouragement, and uncertainty for the future, but we cannot allow this uncertainty to paralyze us to do what we can here and now. Wendell Berry once said, “I don’t like to talk about the future very much because it doesn’t exist and we don’t know anything about it.”  He continued, "We don’t have the right to ask if something will work, if it will be effective, or if it is expedient.  We have to ask what is the right thing to do and go ahead and do it and take no thought for tomorrow.” 

May our worship equip and encourage us in the Spirit to stand together and do what is right.
